Draisaitl To Make Rockets Debut

Kelowna Rockets fans are in for a treat tonight as former NHL player and German star Leon Draisaitl will make his debut for the Rockets when Kelowna hosts Vancouver at Prospera Place. Drasaitl was acquired by the Rockets this week after weeks of trade rumours and landed in town yesterday morning then headed straight to the rink for practice with his new club.

After his 37 games in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers, General Manager Craig MacTavish made the decision to send the 19 year old back to junior. ”I think for obvious reasons, Kelowna was the destination for Leon and I think this is going to be extremely important for his development.” MacTavish told NHL.com on Tuesday morning after the trade was confirmed. Draisaitl played two seasons in the WHL with the Prince Alberta Raiders, notching 128 games played, 59 goals, 104 assists, and only 46 penalty minutes. When the power forward was asked what can Kelowna fans expect from him he said: “I guess I’ll surprise you…just work hard and try help the team win.” Draisaitl was drafted third overall at the 2014 NHL entry draft, he is currently 6’1 and weighs 210lbs. “Just from watching him in practice yesterday you can tell this kid is elite.” coach Dan Lambert said before todays pre game skate. Game time tonight is at 7:05 as the Rockets host the Vancouver Giants.
